Meet Buck aka Buckshot

When we went to the pound a couple years ago we noticed they had several GSDs.My husband’s intent was to get a GSD. The most handsomest boy of them all was named Walter (a two year old GSD) and we asked to visit with him, and what my husband noticed was his hyper vigilance and curiosity. At the time we had just the only big dog we had to cancer so we couldn’t leave with just one dog; Buck needed a buddy.
I had chosen Mayhem aka Rambo. Rambo, unlike Buck was a little crazy and about a year plus younger.

We had to make sure they meshed so they needed to introduce them and they not only hit it off instantaneously, but became inseparable. The first time we truly understood this when I took Rambo to obedience training sans Buck and at the time my husband had them in the outdoor shed, because we were remodeling our kitchen and we had workers in our house. The hour or so I was gone Buck got such bad separation anxiety that he ripped the doggy door off the back of the shed. To this day if I take Rambo for a walk without Buck he loses his ever loving mind.

Because of his serious no nonsense nature Buck is the alpha. When I am working outside he assumes the position of guard dog and at night he sleeps on the couch by the front door. He’s even been great with the other dogs when pups, but if they cross him meaning they try to take his food they learn who’s boss real quick; however, I’d argue he’s shown tremendous restraints over the years especially with the puppies. I guess it just speaks to his intelligence.

When people encounter Buck behind our gate they are fearful, but he is so sweet. He’s just doing his job.
